Light you can work under all day
One row of cans in the middle of the ceiling makes a basement feel like a basement. We layer it — general lighting on a dimmer, task lighting over the desk, and wall washing to push light onto the vertical surfaces, which is what actually makes a room read as bright.
Where an egress window or a widened window well is possible, natural light changes the room more than any fixture.
Quiet and cable
We insulate the ceiling for footfall noise from above and run hardwired Ethernet to the desk. Video calls are the reason most basement offices get built and wireless through a foundation wall is the reason people give up on them.
Temperature
Basements run cold and damp. We plan supply and return for the office as its own zone where possible, and where the system will not support it we say so and price a ductless head instead of pretending a single register will fix it.
