What goes into a basement theater
The work happens before the drywall. We frame soffits to hide the projector feed and the ductwork above the seating area, pull in-wall speaker and HDMI runs to every location you will ever want a speaker, and set the screen wall dead flat so the image does not distort at the edges.
Electrical is planned around the equipment: dedicated circuits for the rack, dimmable recessed cans on a separate zone from the step lighting, and low-voltage kept away from line voltage so you do not get hum in the audio.
Sound control
Most of the noise complaint in a basement theater is upstairs, not downstairs. Insulating the joist bays above the room, using resilient channel where the ceiling height allows, and sealing penetrations does more for the household than any acoustic panel on the wall.
If ceiling height is tight, we will tell you what you give up before we frame anything rather than after.
Tiered seating and sightlines
A second row only works if it is raised, and a raised platform eats headroom. We measure your existing joist height first and lay out sightlines from the seat, not from the floor plan, so nobody in the back row is watching the top half of the screen.
